LUCKNOW: The list of medals finalised by the Lucknow University authorities came under dispute on the eve of the annual convocation on Saturday, when a girl student lodged a complaint with the vice-chancellor Prof SB Singh alleging that she had been denied the gold medal for securing highest marks in the Masters of Public Administration (MPA) part II examinations.
There are two gold medals instituted for meritorious students at post-graduate level in the department of public administration. While Raja Raghvendra Pratap Singh memorial gold medal is given to the student for obtaining the highest percentage of marks in the aggregate at the MPA II examination by calculating the total marks of the two years, the Suresh Chandra Bhasin memorial gold medal is given to a student for obtaining highest percentage of marks at the MPA II examination.
Akansha Srivastava, who is now teaching in LU, claimed that although she had secured highest marks in the MPA II examinations, LU authorities had put the name of the girl, who had secured highest aggregate, for both the medals. She said that the other girl deserves the Raja Raghvendra Pratap Singh memorial gold medal. "But as per rules the Suresh Chandra Bhasin memorial gold medal should be awarded to me," she said. The girl met the dean faculty of arts, who is also head of the public administration department, Prof CP Barthwal, who told the girl that he supported her. However, when controller of examination, Prof VD Pandey was contacted, he denied any discrepancy in medal list. The medal manual has been shown to the concerned officials.
