DGP hands over ₹41cr aid to kin of deceased, injured cops
Lucknow: Director general of police Rajeev Krishna on Thursday handed over financial assistance worth Rs 41.60 crore to the families of deceased police personnel and to disabled personnel under the Police Salary Package (PSP).
The financial aid, facilitated through a partnership with Bank of Baroda, was provided to a total of 27 beneficiaries, including families of 22 police personnel who died in the line of duty and five personnel who suffered disabilities due to accidents.
During the event, the DGP personally met the families of the deceased and interacted with injured personnel and their kin, assuring them of continued institutional support and welfare assistance from the department.
A notable case highlighted during the programme was that of constable Akash Singh, posted with the govt railway police (GRP) in Gonda. On March 31, 2026, Singh sustained grievous injuries after being hit by a train while attempting to prevent an accused from escaping. The accident resulted in the amputation of both his legs.
Under the PSP scheme, a cheque of Rs 1.50 crore was handed over to his wife by the DGP. In addition, financial contributions from various police units and officials brought the total assistance to Rs 1,80,35,152. This includes Rs 1 lakh from the DGP, Rs 10.88 lakh from SP Railway Gorakhpur, Rs 5.19 lakh from SP Railway Lucknow, Rs 13.25 lakh from SSP Meerut, and Rs 1.5 crore from Bank of Baroda.
On the occasion, a renewed MoU was also signed between the Uttar Pradesh Police and Bank of Baroda for a period of three years, extending the PSP benefits.
Under the PSP scheme, personnel are entitled to comprehensive banking services along with insurance coverage of up to Rs 2.30 crore. The cover includes financial protection in cases of accidental death, partial disability, and permanent disability, offering crucial support to personnel and their dependants.
DGP Rajeev Krishna expressed confidence that the renewed partnership would significantly enhance the financial security of police personnel and their families while encouraging similar welfare-driven initiatives in the future.
