LUCKNOW: Director general, intelligence, Devendra Singh Chauhan, has been given the additional charge of the
Uttar Pradesh director general of police (DGP) till further orders.
He is likely to assume charge on Friday. The order, issued by additional chief secretary, home, Awanish Awasthi, came a day after Mukul Goel was removed from the post of UP DGP on Wednesday for "disregard of government duty", "not taking interest in departmental work" and ‘indolence’, and was appointed the director general (DG), civil defence.
DS Chauhan, a 1987-batch IPS officer, also holds the charge of director, Vigilance Establishment.
He started his career as ASP (under training) in west Lucknow in January 1993 and has served as the district police chief of Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Agra, Saharanpur, Rampur, Pratapgarh, and Bulandshahr. He also holds the experience of working in investigation agencies like the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).
The officer was awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished services in 2013.
In 2016, he went for central deputation in the CRPF as inspector general and was posted in Chhattisgarh sector. He was appointed ADG (CRPF) before returning to his home cadre in Uttar Pradesh in 2020.
