Day after attack, condition of ex-min Prajapati stable

Lucknow: A day after being attacked inside the jail hospital, the condition of former minister Gayatri Prajapati, who is undergoing treatment at KGMU in Lucknow, is said to be stable.Gayatri, 61, suffered injuries on his head and arms on Tuesday evening when he was assaulted by a fellow inmate inside Lucknow jail hospital.Lucknow jail superintendent, RK Jaiswal, lodged an FIR against undertrial Vishwas Rajput at Gosainganj police station under sections 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult).DIG (Prisons) Ram Dhani said that Vishwas, an undertrial in an attempt to murder case in Saadatganj, was given the task of cleaning the jail hospital.Dhani said that on Sept 30, a dispute broke out between inmate Vishwas and Gayatri Prajapati. During the argument, Prajapati allegedly used abusive language, which enraged Vishwas. In retaliation, Vishwas hit him with a iron strip of an almirah.Jail staff and the medical officer on duty rushed to the spot and provided immediate treatment to Prajapati.Later, Prajapati was referred to KGMU for consultation, where X-ray and CT scan reports were found to be normal."The inmate's health is currently stable, and the situation inside the jail is completely normal. This attack occurred at the spur of the moment, and no conspiracy has come to light so far. A departmental is underway," the DIG clarified.A picture on social media went viral, showing 13 stitches on the head of former minister Prajapati. The Special MP/MLA Court of Lucknow had convicted Gayatri Prajapati and his two accomplices, Ashish Shukla and Ashok Tiwari, and sentenced them to life imprisonment in a gang rape case on Nov 12, 2021. Prajapati was arrested in March 2017.
