Ctrl+Alive+Delete: 3 living voters in Lucknow marked 'dead' in SIR draft roll, struck off list

LUCKNOW: Much to their shock, three residents of Lucknow North Assembly constituency's Madehganj area have found their names listed among the dead voters in the latest draft of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.


The draft was published on Jan 6. The draft had 1,28,242 people listed as dead.

Mohammad Imran Ahmad (42), Mohammad Rizwan Khan (50), and Mohammad Sami Usmani (60), all residing at the same address, were also classified as deceased, and their voter identities deleted.

All three had cast their votes as recently as Oct 27, 2025, at polling booth 120 located at Almighty Montessori School.

At this particular booth, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) declared 41 out of 1,241 voters as dead. The revision aligns with a new norm limiting each booth to a maximum of 1,200 voters.

The error is particularly baffling as all three men personally submitted their enumeration forms to the BLO and possess acknowledgements.

Mohammad Imran Ahmad, a café owner, confirmed he has proof of his submission. Mohammad Rizwan Khan, an artisan, faced the same inexplicable situation.

For Mohammad Sami Usmani, a senior citizen who has voted in every election since 1980, the mistake is both shocking and disheartening.

Despite his decades-long voting history and valid documents, he found himself officially listed as deceased.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has advised all those missing from the draft to submit Form 6 as new voters to ensure their names appear in the final roll on March 6.
