LUCKNOW: The law and order situation in Chowk police circle for the second consecutive day on Friday evening went into a tizzy as medical students damaged property and burnt few two wheelers. The medical students who entered into a scuffle on a petty dispute regarding two wheeler parking with the traders on Thursday night again came back to the Cool Corner store and allegedly assaulted the owners and workers there.
The incident began around 5 pm when the MBBS students of Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) reached the store and created ruckus in the area and even assaulted three persons who the police identified Ashish Kumar Tripathi, Vikas Dikshit and Anil.
As the traders saw the medicos assaulting the three they too in retaliation got engaged in the scuffle before the police intervened in the matter. Things however did not improve even as the injured were rushed to the Balrampur Hospital. This time the traders gheraod the Chowk police station which was barely 50 metres from the site of the ruckus.
The police reached the site with PAC support. In the meanwhile the traders demanding stringent action against the medical students gave their application against six of them who they identified as Nishant Singh, Siddharth Singh, Shashank Singh, Prashit, Charukant and Raunak. Charukant and Raunak were arrested. Circle Officer (CO) Chowk Vinay Chandra said,"A case has been lodged against them for creating ruckus and loot."
The medical students too did not even stop here, they blocked the road near the Shahmina resulting in a traffic chaos in the area. However, the police managed to get the roads cleared by applying force.
The dispute between the two sides began on Thursday night on the issue of medicos parking their motorcycles outside the Cool Corner, after which both the sides indulged in violence.
On Thursday night a non-cognizable report was lodged against the traders on demand of the medical students. Till the time of going to press no case was lodged against the traders. In the incident, which the police had to run from pillar to post to control, inspector Chowk Krishna Mohan Singh was suspended. DIG Lucknow NK Srivastav confirmed the suspension.
There were also unconfirmed reports that the doctors were threatening to strike work if action was not initiated against the traders.
