Cop booked for assault on woman constable

Lucknow: An assistant sub inspector (ministerial) placed in vigilance cell was booked along with a 23-year-old engineering student for harassing a female cop in Mahanagar area late Wednesday. On her way home, constable Sunita Tiwari in uniform was allegedly abused and harassed by three men as she tried to rescue another woman they were troubling.
Tiwari said “at about 10:15pm, three drunken men wearing blue T-shirts were troubling a young woman near Gol market.When I tried to rescue her, one of the men, who is apparently posted in vigilance cell, tried to overpower me after which I made a distress call on 100 and called my superiors.”
“By the time police arrived, two of them escaped, while the third, sub inspector Dinesh Singh Bisht, tried to assault me but I overpowered him. Later, one of two accused who fled away the spot was caught near Rahimnagar intersection by the description I gave the cops,” she said. “The girl the trio were harassing requested me to let her go, as she didn’t wanted to get involved in the police investigation process,” she added.
According to Kanak Lata SHO of women police station, an FIR was lodged against the arrested accused Rahul Shukla and sub inspector Dinesh Singh Bisht of vigilance cell for assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
Denying the charges, Rahul Shukla said “I was on my way to meet a friend Anil Kumar who owns a shop near Rahimnagar intersection.”
The assistant sub-inspector accused denied the charges and claimed “I don’t know this man (Rahul Shukla) and I have been framed falsely.”
Shukla hails from Allahabad and has been living in Lucknow for last three years in a rented room. He claimed to be mechanical engineering student of Hewett polytechnic.
