Lucknow: The Ambedkarnagar police on Thursday booked constable Ajay Yadav for sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman for over three years on the pretext of marrying her. The FIR was lodged after the woman met senior officers and apprised them about her ordeal. Station Officer, Hanswar, Pramod Kumar Singh, said that the survivor had met the accused officer in May 2020 through a common acquaintance.
A few months later, he proposed to marry her.
“From 2020 to 2023, the accused took her to a place in Ambedkarnagar, and as per the woman, forced himself upon her,” said the police, based on the FIR.
Later, in February 2023, when the survivor asked the accused to marry her, he reneged from his promise and instead threatened her with dire consequences.
“When the survivor confronted Ajay, he claimed that he had great clout in the police department and she would not be able to do anything to him,” the survivor claimed in the FIR demanding stern action against the cop. Singh added that based on the complaint of the accused an FIR under relevant charges have been lodged and a probe is being conducted. The accused cop has already been suspended and a deputy SP rank officer is probing the case, the police said. tnn
