Congress worker’s death: Autopsy inconclusive
Lucknow: Police on Thursday seized CCTV footage and Digital Video Recorder (DVR) data from Congress office in Lucknow in connection with the death of a party functionary Prabhat Pandey. Police said the spot where Prabhat was found ‘unconscious' on Wednesday was not preserved hence no evidence could be collected from the site.
Additional DCP, Central Zone, Manisha Singh, said postmortem report of Prabhat has failed to establish the exact cause of his death and samples of his heart and viscera have been preserved for further examination. Sources said no injury marks were found on Prabhat's body.
Prabhat (31), a native of Grakhpur, was found ‘unconscious' at the party office on Wednesday evening. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. Prabhat's uncle Manish Pandey had lodged a murder case with the Hazratganj police.
Police first approached Dwarika Prasad Shukla, an employee at the Congress office, who had informed Manish Pandey about what had happened to his nephew. Since Dwarika was not present, his co-workers Rakesh Singh and Manoj Shukla led the police team to the spot where Prabhat was found unconscious.
Prabhat's call details revealed that he had made calls to two numbers on Wednesday — 13 calls to one number and one call to the other number.
Probe revealed that Prabhat's location around 1:30pm on Dec 18 was near the Congress office. Until 12:30pm, his location was traced to Malhaur in Chinhat. Police are trying to collect other mobile numbers of Prabhat.
Police are now trying to find out who invited Prabhat to the Congress office. Police will also send Prabhat's mobile, which is now with Manish Pandey, for data analysis.
