Cong worker found dead at party office
Lucknow: A 31-year-old Congress worker, Prabhat Pandey, was found unconscious at the party office on Wednesday evening and was later declared dead at SPIMS Hospital, Hazratganj, the police said.
DCP Central Zone, Raveena Tyagi, said there were no visible injuries on his body. "A detailed post-mortem, conducted by a panel and recorded on video, will determine the cause of death," Tyagi said. CMS Civil Hospital, Dr Rajesh Srivastava, said: "The patient was brought dead to the hospital."
Pandey's uncle, Manish Pandey, filed an FIR under murder charges against unidentified persons, alleging that his nephew had been unconscious for two hours before being taken to the hospital. Prabhat lived in a PG in Gomtinagar.
Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak visited the hospital and assured Pandey's family of justice. UP Congress chief Ajay Rai mourned the death and said, "Congress believes in non-violence and the power of peaceful demonstration. But the Yogi govt tried to suppress our protest, which led to chaos in which we lost a young worker."
He demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family and a govt job for the kin.
