Lucknow: A delegation of the UP Congress urged Governor Anandiben Patel to direct the UP govt to conduct a judicial probe to investigate the death of their party worker, Prabhat Pandey, on Dec 18 during the Congress protest. The delegation handed over their formal request to the governor via the district administration.
While Congressmen blamed the use of force by the police to stop them, leading to the sudden death, police said that the body was found inside the party office. A postmortem examination was also conducted in the case, which remained inconclusive. The police also interrogated several Congress workers, including state president Ajay Rai, in the case.
Minority department chairperson Shahzad Alam said, "We have demanded a fair judicial inquiry into the incident to ensure justice for Prabhat Pandey. We have also urged the govt to provide compensation and a job to a family member."
