allahabad: integrate the power of the indian mind with the power of action to achieve competence and crown it with excellence in a highly competitive world, is the message of prof pritam singh, director of the lucknow based indian institute of management. singh was delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the international meet on integrating world markets: living excellence through techology and beyond, organised at the mln regional engineering college here on saturday.
prof. singh suggested that india should have winning vision and himalyan dreams, develop consumer centric approach with ethical governance as it ranked the most fourth corrupt nation in the world. we shall have to leave the tendency of immitating and blindly following the same. singh said india ranked 16 in the world population, but its contribution to world trade worked out to only one per cent. simultaneously, india has accummulated non-performing assets worth about rs. 90,000 crore. an assessment of world economic forum, he quoted, place india on the 45th slot among 53 countries, regarding the global mindset. he attributed this to the crisis in leadership, universities and politics. india, however, he said, awaits great opportunities as in the 21st century. most countries, including china, would have an ageing population of over 60 years. the world would look to india with a young professional manpower. in space and information technology india was already emerging as a world power, though it had much to do, he cautioned. in this context, he pointed out that the indian mind is basically a brahminical one which stressed thinking and thought at the cost of action. we should have power centric mind, action centric mind and result-oriented mind. we should survive with excellence, we should have passion, imme diacy for action. a strong concept of immedidiacy and urgency has to be introduced in our action to develop a global mindset for competitiveness and excellence, he pleaded. prof singh was of the view that india needed to create multiple leadership in every sphere through decentralisation for excel lence. prof. g k mehta, vice-chancellor, allahabad university, in his presidential address appreciated the view points expressed by prof. singh as inspiring and soul searching. we are second to none, but why not first. what is wrong with us, we should ponder over, he pleaded. mehta pleaded for developing scientific temper by giving more attention on education. india should develop manpower which is sought after the choking feeder lines should be cleansed to create such a situation. earlier, prof. i c agrawal, mlnreco principal, gave a brief out line of the college achieving excellence and the background of the international conference while later prof. p r agrawal of the school of management proposed a vote of thanks. mr. r p goyal, advocate general, up, was the guest of honour at the function.
