CMO murder: shooter identified, claim cops

LUCKNOW: Exactly two months after chief medical officer, family welfare, Dr BP Singh was shot in Gomtinagar, have the cops probing the case finally got a real breakthrough? A special crack team of UP police has claimed that it has identified the shooter who pulled the trigger to kill Dr Singh on April 2. The team, comprising selected cops from all the state and privy only to DGP Karamveer Singh or Special DG Brijlal, has reportedly traced the alleged killer's location to Delhi.
Sources said the mystery behind the Dr Singh's – or even his predecessor Dr VK Arya's – murder may be solved once the shooters are either identified or nabbed.Sources said that nearly 10 teams set up to probe the two cases, suspect the role of an influential person behind both the murders. However, none of the teams has been able to collect any corroborative evidence against the said person so far.
However, the investigators are quite sure that once the shooters are nabbed, they will have ample proof to nail the mastermind. A source said that at least a dozen persons other than the said influential person are suspected to be involved in the conspiracy to eliminate the two CMOs.
Sources said that till now the investigators have been able to identify the fact that the shooters are most likely from Western UP and not taking shelter in a nearby state as presumed earlier. Therefore, three teams of STF and special squad are camping in Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut.
However, senior police officials are tightlipped and are no more forthcoming than merely admitting that not much headway has been made in the case. The ten teams involved in the investigation so far have interrogated at least 100 persons of all categories.
Elaborating, a senior official privy to the probe said that around a dozen eye-witnesses have been interrogated to ascertain the identity of the shooters.
Besides, around three dozen employees of health department have been quizzed, too. Probe teams have also grilled nearly two dozen shooters throughout the state with similar looks as described by eye-witnesses. The official also said that till now around five motives have been shortlisted, any of which could be a strong reason for the two murders.
