City grp to celebrate 201st birth anniv of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah

Lucknow: To celebrate the bicentenary birth anniversary of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last ruler of Awadh, a Facebook live will be organized by Lucknow Connection Worldwide on Sunday from 2pm onwards. The members of the group will be able to join the event, which will feature a discussion on the life and times of Wajid Ali Shah, who was born on July 30, 1822.The main speakers will be filmmaker Muzaffar Ali and historians Roshan Taqui and Ravi Bhatt. Veena Talwar Oldenburg, who is professor of history at Baruch College and The Graduate Centre of the City University of New York will also speak at the event.It will be followed by a kissagoi by Askari Naqvi, Himanshu Bajpai and Mehmood Abidi, said founder of the Facebook group, Sunil Mishra. “Kamran Mirza, the great-great-grandson of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, will connect with the event from Shah’s tomb in Imambara of Sibtainabad, Metiabruz, West Bengal. He will be lighting over 200 candles at the tomb, which will be shown live on Facebook,” said Mishra. This is a small initiative to pay tribute to Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the people’s king who has a deep influence on the art and culture of Awadh, he added.
