Chain-snatcher held after police encounter

Lucknow: A 22-year-old wanted criminal, Vivek Kumar Yadav alias Sheru Yadav, was arrested after a police encounter in the PGI police station area on Friday night.Police said a checking drive was underway near Barouli Bridge on Saturday when Yadav, who was riding a motorcycle without a number plate, was signalled to stop. Instead of complying, he allegedly fired at the police team in an attempt to escape. In retaliatory firing by the police, the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg.
Police officials said that Vivek Yadav was wanted in a recent chain-snatching case involving the wife of a bank manager in Vrindavan Yojana Sector 11.
