CBI lens on ex-IOCL officer for wealth beyond means
Lucknow: Central Bureau of Investigation carried out raids in a case registered against Mohit Kumar, former sales officer/senior sales officer/assistant manager of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Noida Division, currently posted as manager (terminal) in Haryana.The case was filed on Jan 28, based on allegations that he amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure from Apr 1, 2019 and May 24, 2023.As per CBI, Mohit Kumar was found to be in possession of pecuniary resources worth Rs 49.48 lakh, which is 95.94% beyond his legitimate earnings. Investigations revealed that he served IOCL in various roles, including as sales officer in Meerut-I and assistant manager in Noida-III, where he allegedly accumulated assets disproportionate to his income.Search was conducted at five locations, including two in Muzaffarnagar, one in Meerut and two in Panipat. During these raids, incriminating documents, including bank passbooks, credit cards, sale deeds and records of five vehicles, were seized.Mohit Kumar joined IOCL on Dec 3, 2013 as assistant operations officer. His financial records show his salary account at SBI, Saket Branch, Meerut, had a balance of Rs 41.48 lakh as on Apr 1, 2019. By May 24, 2023, the balance increased to Rs 49.82 lakh. Additionally, he made a payment of Rs 20 lakh to M/s Uttarakhand Automobile, Meerut, for purchase of an SUV.Financial analysis indicates Kumar received a net salary of Rs 44.08 lakh and a bonus of Rs 7.87 lakh, totalling Rs 51.95 lakh in income during the check period. His expenditures, however, amounted to Rs 73.47 lakh, revealing a discrepancy of Rs 49.84 lakh.Following these findings, CBI booked Mohit Kumar under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). The investigation is on and further legal proceedings will be undertaken based on collected evidence.
