LUCKNOW: Lucknow unit of Central Bureau of Investigation, booked former postmaster Kumar Priyadarshi of DLW branch in Varanasi and his wife Jayanti for disproportionate assets and corruption.
The CBI said that during Priyadarshi’s tenure in DLW post office from 2003 to 2016, his total income from known sources is Rs 17 lakh. However, the probe found that assets purchased, and expenditure met in the same period was Rs 55 lakh.
In 2019, Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs 1.3 crore of Priyadarshi, after registering a PMLA case against him in 2018. Priyadarshi along with his wife Jayanti were also booked by CBI for embezzlement of Rs 5.14 crore in 2016.
The CBI said that during probe, it surfaced that between September 10, 2003 and December 31, 2016, a land in Jaipur worth Rs 40 lakh was found along with movable assets worth Rs 10 lakh, taking the total to Rs 50 lakh, while the salary earned by Priyadarshi was Rs 17.3 lakh in the same period. Thus, possession of Rs 38.42 lakh was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
