LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two persons, including a Sub Divisional Inspector (SDI) of India Post and a driver, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a Branch Post Master in Jaunpur on Tuesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as
Ankit Singh, SDI, India Post Madiyahu, Jaunpur, and
Rohit Yadav, a Mail Motor driver.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on May 19, following a complaint against SDI Ankit Singh. The official had conducted an inspection of the Seur Branch Post Office in Jaunpur on May 15, 2025, where the complainant is posted as Branch Post Master.
During the inspection, a cash shortage was allegedly noticed, and the complainant was asked to submit a clarification, which he did on May 17.
It is alleged that on the same day, SDI Ankit Singh demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 to settle the matter and to avoid the complainant’s suspension.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Rohit Yadav red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of the SDI. Both accused were arrested and produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI), Court No. 6, Lucknow.
The investigation is ongoing.
