Lucknow: Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Yojana, under which bus connectivity was to be ensured to every village of the state, is likely to get operational from May.
UP State Road Transport Corporation has received 1,010 applications from private operators, from all 20 regions, till March 28, which was the last date to apply under the scheme.
Minister of state for transport (independent charge) Dayashankar Singh said that the selection process will be completed in April, so that operation of buses in rural areas can start from May.
Under the scheme approved by the state cabinet on March 17, all 59,163 gram panchayats in UP will be connected to buses. The main objective of the scheme is to provide people living in villages direct and safe access to block, tehsil and district headquarters. TNN
