LUCKNOW: Lucknow Municipal Corporation's plan to make the city spic and span is expected to get a boost under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.
With the budgetary allocation of Rs 2,707 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, the LMC is all set to improve the solid waste management in the city. Besides, the wastewater treatment facility will also be strengthened, LMC sources said.
Environment engineer, LMC, Sanjeev Pradhan said, "Last year around Rs 33 crore was allotted to Lucknow under Swachh Bharat Mission.
This year, we expected to get more." LMC has planned to segregate waste at the source itself to improve solid waste management. Around 2,000 metric tonnes of the waste generated in the city daily. Of this, 40% (800) metric tonnes is biodegradable and 60% (1,200) non- biodegradable. It is difficult to transport all of it to Shivri Plant on the same day.
The biodegradable waste will be sent to Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centres to be constructed in different areas for making compost, said Pradhan. "Besides, funds will also help in establishing more toilets and sewage water treatment plants," he added.
The city is also expected to benefit from the allocations under Amrit 2.0.
