Breakdown, shutdown as rain, winds hit power infra in city
Lucknow: Gusty winds swept the city on Tuesday evening, disrupting power supply in several parts and damaging infrastructure, necessitating precautionary power shutdowns.
Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL) officials said multiple feeders across Gomti Nagar, Jankipuram, Amausi and central zones were affected as strong winds led to breakdowns and safety risks.
Electricity supply from Viraj Khand substation in Gomti Nagar was disrupted from 6.47 pm due to breakdown. Feeders serving Vastu, Vikalp, Vijayanta, Vibhav, Vikrant Khands and new and old residential blocks were shut down amid high-speed winds. Omega and UPSIDC substations too switched off 11 kV feeders, while Laulai feeder from Kamta substation broke down.
In Vipin Khand, Dayal feeder remained affected for an hour, while Vastu Khand feeder from Viraj Khand substation was disrupted for 90 minutes. Accident was averted near Lohia Park power house in Gomti Nagar when a tree fell on a moving vehicle.
In Jankipuram zone, all outgoing feeders from Subhash Park (Mahanagar), ITI Aliganj, GSI and Priyadarshini substations were shut down temporarily. Breakdowns were reported at Bhikhampur and GPRA substations due to damaged conductors. An electric pole tilted near Khadra TG Hostel.
Field teams were deployed for repair work. In several locations, power poles tilted and trees fell.
“Temporary shutdowns were necessary to prevent electrocution and further damage during high wind conditions and supply was restored once weather conditions stabilised and safety checks were completed,” said an official.
