Brahmin unrest in UP has made BJP uncomfortable, says Maya
Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati on Saturday said the unrest among Brahmins has left the BJP concerned and uncomfortable."In the BJP govt in the state, apart from a handful of people who are getting their interests fulfilled, most people from every section of society are disappointed. Among them, it is the Brahmin community which is most vocal against the insecurities, disrespect and neglect faced by it. This is being discussed everywhere in the country. This is what even BJP is looking concerned and uncomfortable about," she said while holding the state-level meeting of her party's UP unit in Lucknow.
She asked her party's rank and file to reach out to voters from the 'sarvasamaj' (all sections of society), including Brahmins, with confidence that it was only the BSP govt which ensured every caste and community safety and security. She also made changes in the party organisation by putting "missionary" men, from within the party, into significant positions. She said Mission 2027 has to be designed similar to Mission 2007, when the party formed a majority govt in UP for the first time. "The changes were made to bring our party's Sarvajan Hitaay, Sarvajan Sukhaay majority govt in UP," she said. She asked party men and voters to be wary of the opposition parties. "It is because of the anti-SC, ST and OBC character of the opposition that people from these communities are facing difficulties in getting govt jobs and promotions," the former UP CM said. It was because of the lack of right intent that the new UGC rules became a cause of social tension instead of harmony, she said adding: "There is a need to look at outsourcing of jobs, which led to severe exploitation of people and affected the quality of work in basic amenities, like education, hospitals and schools." On the ongoing SIR exercise, she said the officers should help people get their names included in the voter list, mainly the daily wagers, women and illiterates. She said the "drama and tussle" going on between the govt and the opposition in the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament is "unfortunate".
