LUCKNOW: Almost 10 days after Bhojpuri actress
Akanksha Dubey, 26, was found dead in a hotel room in Varanasi, her boyfriend, Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh, was arrested from Ghaziabad on Friday, Varanasi police commissioner Ashok Mutha Jain confirmed.
Another senior police officer said a Sarnath Police team of the Varanasi Police Commissionerate reached Ghaziabad late Thursday, and with the assistance of Ghaziabad Police, arrested the accused singer from Rajnagar Extension area.
“The accused was presented in a Ghaziabad court for transit remand of 24 hours and was being brought to Varanasi,” said additional DCP Nipun Agarwal.
A red corner notice was also issued against Samar and his brother Sanjay Singh. Samar has been accused of abetting the actress’ suicide by Akanksha’s mother and was on the run, said police.
Akanksha was found hanging inside a hotel room in Sarnath on March 26. Her mother had claimed that Samar used to beat her daughter and that his brother had threatened to kill her.
