Lucknow: Bodies of Mukesh Yadav (21) and Rani Kumari (19) were recovered from a jungle in Jahangirabad area of Barabanki on Monday. The two belonged to the same Bhayara village in the district. Police recovered a bottle of pesticide from the site leading to the suspicion that the two consumed poison to end life.
Barabanki additional superintendent of police Purnendu Singh said that initial investigations revealed that two were in love, but their families were averse to the idea of their marriage because of caste-related social constraints.
“We have sent the bodies for the post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death, while the bottle recovered at the site has been sent to the FSL in Mahanagar, Lucknow, to ascertain the chemical used. Their bodies were recovered at least 20 km from their house,” he said. He added that preliminary investigations have revealed Mukesh was going to get married with a woman of his parents’ choice while he was not ready for this.
“Mukesh’s family came to know about his relationship with a girl from a different caste, because of which, his marriage was fixed with another woman,” said the officer.
Police said that both Mukesh and Rani had gone missing on July 16 night.
