Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav
on Sunday held the government responsible for violence and loss of lives during protests against the
Citizenship law
and urged people to hold peaceful protests.
Talking to mediapersons, he alleged BJP had failed on all fronts and was diverting people’s attention from real issues by creating rift in the society.
“The government is trying to divert people’s attention from economic failure, farmers’ distress and unemployment,” he said.
He criticized CM Yogi Adityanath’s statement that damage done to properties during the protests would be “avenged” by confiscating the assets of protesters. “The government is deliberately trying to frighten people and spreading hate,” Yadav said.
Demanding identification of cops allegedly involved in arson, he said: “Agar video clip dekh ke ye chinhit kar rahey hain to sarkar ko vo video bhi dekhna chaahiye jis me police khud tod-fod kar rahi hai (If identification is being done through video footage, the government should also scan those videos in which police personnel are seen indulging in vandalism).”
Meanwhile, expressing concern for migrant poor and seers, Yadav tweeted: “NRC will affect migrant poor, tribals and even our holy men who wander without any worldly belongings.”
