LUCKNOW: Even as the National Commission for Women served a notice on the BJP MLA Sadhna Singh for her derogatory remarks on BSP chief
Mayawati, the first-time lawmaker from Mughalsarai got support from her party legislator Surendra Singh.
On Monday, Surendra Singh, the sitting BJP MLA from Bairia said, he saw nothing wrong in the what Sadhna Singh had said.
“There is nothing wrong in what Sadhna Singh said...any person who has zero self-respect is called a transgender,” Surendra Singh told reporters in Ballia. “The manner in which Mayawati has joined hands with the
Samajwadi Party after the state guest house incident of 1995 shows that she has no self-respect,” he said, adding that he will protest if the police booked Sadhna Singh.
On Saturday, addressing a public meeting in Mughalsarai, Sadhna had triggered a political storm by calling BSP supremo Mayawati as “worse than a transgender”. She later expressed regret on her statement claiming that it was not aimed to hurt anyone’s sentiments.
The BJP lawmaker made the controversial remarks while referring to the infamous incident when Mayawati was assaulted by Samajwadi Party workers in a Lucknow guest house in 1995. Responding to Sadhana Singh’s statement, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said it reflected the frustration that has crept into the BJP rank and file ever since the SP and BSP have announced their alliance.
