MATHURA: Six people, including a local BJP leader have been arrested after an illegal IPL betting racket was uncovered in Mathura, police said on Friday.
The main accused identified as Bankebihari, was allegedly running the racket from a locked house in Shivdham Colony.
Five others Adil, Rizwan, Kishore, Mukesh, and Bobby were also taken into custody.
During a joint raid by the Sadar police and the Special Operations Group (SOG), officers found that betting was being carried out on every ball of IPL matches, with transactions running into lakhs of rupees.
Police seized around Rs 1.6 lakh in cash, 11 mobile phones, a laptop, and three notebooks containing betting details from the spot.
All the accused, except Bobby who is from Firozabad, are residents of Mathura.
A case has been registered under the Public Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the wider network involved, police added.
