Bhojpuri samaj pays tribute to Sharda Sinha
Lucknow: All India Bhojpuri Samaj paid rich tributes to renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha at an event organised at the Lakshman Mela ground on Wednesday. Famous for her Chhath devotional songs, Sinha passed away at the age of 72, coincidentally on Chhath, Tuesday. Known as the ‘Bihar Kokila,' she was celebrated for her immense contributions to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magahi music. She was the recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contributions to the field of music. At the event, Amita Sharma and her team performed Sinha's songs, including "Kaachi Baas Ki Bagiya, Baghi Lachkat Jaye," "Chhathi Mayya Aayi Naharva Ho," and "Gomti Ke Ghat Mayya." Paying tribute to the singer, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak urged all to come forward to carry on her vision and the legacy of her Bhojpuri songs that she left behind. President of AIBS, Prabhunath Rai, said, "We are shocked and deeply saddened by her demise. Her voice and melodies will always remain evergreen in people's hearts. I had invited her to Lucknow in 2005 for an event and honoured her with the Bhojpuri Ratna Samman." Divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob, and municipal commissioner Indrajeet Singh were also present on the occasion.
