Bhagwat urges vigilance against illegal immigrants; backs three-child policy

Lucknow: Raising concern over illegal immigration in India, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday asked people to keep a close watch to identify ‘intruders' and report them to authorities."People need to keep a closer watch to identify foreigners and ensure that they do not receive employment here," Bhagwat said after inaugurating an ashram in Mathura. His remarks attain significance against the backdrop of assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, where the issue of illegal immigrants has been in the spotlight. Bhagwat reiterated the three-child policy for Hindu couples, stressing the need for higher birth rates, while discouraging ‘forced' religious conversions. Bhagwat said there should be no discrimination against Indian citizens. "Doctors recommend three children for sound family health. Population studies warn that a fertility rate below three poses long-term risks. Countries with low birth rates have actively sought to increase their population above three," he said, urging reconsideration of India's population policy. He stressed that while legal measures can be applied, public understanding is crucial first. Calling for an end to forced religious conversions, the RSS chief said, "Many who converted to other religions are descendants of Hindus and may wish to return. Those willing should be welcomed back." He cited the ‘aggressive' nature of countries like the US and China, and hailed India as more accommodating of others' viewpoints. Bhagwat said ashrams played a crucial role in shaping life perspective, promoting pride in one's religion and culture while discouraging aggression. "An ashram is first school where life knowledge is taught. Those who stay disciplined and study here can serve society effectively for decades while nurturing their own character," he said. He asserted that India's ancient cultural values and Sanatan Dharma have relevance in today's "turbulent world", and ashrams will remain central in preparing society to uphold these values. Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak and several seers were among those present at the event.
