LUCKNOW: Tazeen Fatima, wife of UP cabinet minister Azam Khan, and six others filed their nomination for the constitution of Sunni Central Waqf Board on Sunday. The nominations can be withdrawn between 11am and 2pm on Monday.
The eight-member Board comprises two MPs (Rajya Sabha/Lok Sabha), two members of legislative assembly/council, two members of Bar Council and two mutawwali (caretakers) of wakf with annual income above Rs 1 lakh.
Fatima is SP MP in Rajya Sabha. Munawwar Salim, SP MP in Rajya Sabha, also filed his nomination. Since there are only two posts in the Board for MPs, election of Fatima and Salim is likely to be unopposed.
Others who filed nomination on Sunday included Abrar Ahmad and Chaudhary Fasiha Bashir for MLA/MLC category. Three nominations - Zufar Farooqi, Adnan Farooqshah and Aqeel Ahmad - were filed in the mutawwali category. If the extra name is not taken back, election for mutawwali will be held on April 1.
The Sunni Central Waqf Board has control over 1.23 lakh waqf properties across UP.
