Atal’s ashes immersed in Sangam, Ganga, Rapti, Betwa
GORAKHPUR/ALLAHABAD/VARANASI/JHANSI: CM Yogi Adityanath immersed the ashes of formerPM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Rapti on Saturday. The ashes of former PM were also immersed in Ganga at Sangam in Allahabad, Varanasi and in Betwa at Orchha.
CM Yogi led the Asthi Kalash Yatra that started from Nipal Lodge and concluded at Rajghat. UP minister Swami Prasad Maurya, BJP MLAs Radha Mohan Das Agarwal and Vipin Singh and Gorakhpur mayor Sita Ram Jaiswal also participated in the programme.
In Allahabad, deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya immersed the ashes in the holy water at Sangam, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati after chanting of mantras. Bengal governor Kesari Nath Tripathi, minister of civil aviation Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ and several leaders paid floral tribute to the departed leader at circuit house.
In Varanasi, BJP state chief Mahendra Nath Pandey, UP minister Neelkanth Tiwari and senior party leaders immersed Vajpayee’s ashes in the midstream of Ganga from a boat amid heavy showers after senior priests Acharya Vivek Oundhekar and Acharya Pravin Darodkar, along with 51 Brahmins performed the ‘asthi visarjan’ rituals.
The ashes of former PM Vajpayee were also immersed in Betwa river at Orchha in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. The ashes were brought to Jhansi in ‘Asthi Kalash Yatra’ led by state transport minister Swatantradev Singh.
