Trip to Isro Atal school students’ space odyssey
TNNLucknow: To enhance their technical skills and all-round development, students of Atal Residential Schools were taken on an educational tour to the Indian Space Research Organization. The scientists organised a knowledge-enhancing workshop related to space science for the students.Activities like space science, machine creation and drone technology were conducted in 18 Atal schools in the state in a 15-day ‘Utkrisht Atal' programme. The students made models of automatic lights, smart blind sticks, smart dustbins and full rover drones. One student from each school who won the ‘Space Art and Best Product Development Competition' held in the schools was given the title of ‘Vigyan Ratna' and all winners were taken on the tour.ISRO director Nilesh Desai told students about mysteries of space as well as India's achievements in space science. Students were asked about major differences between Chandrayaan 2 and Chandrayaan 3 and significance of Jul 20, 1969, the day that Neil Armstrong and Edwin ‘Buzz' Aldrin became first humans to walk on the moon.Desai also introduced students to the basic principles of space exploration. The history of astronomy and modern space missions were discussed. The workshop encouraged creativity and a scientific attitude among the students, accompanied by director general of Atal Residential Schools, Gazal Bhardwaj, additional secretary of ARS School Committee, Amit Kumar Mishra and several teachers.Atal schools, a pro-rural and pro-poor initiative by Yogi govt, provide quality education to children of construction workers and those who lost parents during Covid-19 pandemic.
