LUCKNOW: A seer in the team of Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram Janambhoomi in Ayodhya, reportedly tested positive for coronavirus infection on Thursday. As many as 14 policemen deployed around the Ram temple premises have also tested positive for Covid-19.


While an official confirmation from the district administration was awaited, chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das said: “A seer named Pradeep Das, who also undertook ceremonial worship of the deity, has tested positive and put under isolation. No one else in my temple has tested positive.”

At least 15 people, who came in contact with Pradeep Das, have been quarantined. Pradeep Das was also present during chief minister Yogi Adityanath's visit to Ayodhya on July 25 when he had gone to review preparations for Ram Temple ground breaking ceremony.

Chief medical officer, Ayodhya Dr Ghanshyam Singh said: “All the 14 cops, who tested positive have been isolated. We have tested almost everyone in and around the temple duty.”

According to the state government's Covid-19 bulletin, Ayodhya has recorded a total of 993 coronavirus cases of whom 605 have recovered while 13 have died.

On Wednesday, 66 new cases were reported in the district. Health officials said that most of the cases belonged to localities in Faizabad.
