Lucknow: Timely intervention by an
ASHA worker and the wife of a sanitary worker in the railway helped a pregnant passenger deliver a baby at Jaunpur city station on Sunday afternoon.
Anjali Devi (30) and her husband were travelling from Bhagalpur to Lucknow in Farraka Express. Around noon, she developed labour pain and was alighted at Jaunpur city station in a stretcher by the railway staff.
However, the ambulance got delayed and no medical staff was available as it was an intermediate station.
After coming to know about Anjali’s critical condition, railway staff contacted an ASHA worker,
Nisha Singh, who was passing by the railway station.
“Anjali was taken inside the waiting room area of the station where
Nisha and Sanju Devi, wife of railway sanitary worker Shyam Upadhyay, helped in the delivery. Anjali and her newborn baby were later taken to the local government hospital after the arrival of the ambulance,” said senior divisional commercial manager (Lucknow division, Northern railway) Rekha Sharma.
