Lucknow: Yoga mats rolled out, water bottle in hands and enthusiasts balancing themselves to perform asanas with perfection was a common scene at every academic and science institute in the city on Tuesday — the International Yoga Day.
Students and non-teaching staff in
Lucknow University, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University, Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University performed various asanas, including ‘shashankasana’ that helps manage stress.
Similarly, at the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University students not only performed asanas but were also briefed about their benefits by experts present on the occasion.
No different was the scene in degree colleges. Students of Shri Jai Narayan Misra PG College, Bappa Shri Narayan Vocational PG College, Avadh Girls’ Degree College and others were seen flaunting white yoga T-shirts and colourful neon green, blue and red mats, and performing asanas with perfection.
For scientists based in city the day began with yoga at their respective campuses. Scientists at CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic plants and Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeoscience performed yoga and delivered a lecture on yoga and science during the session.
Academics at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) were also seen performing various yoga asanas enthusiastically. SCERT director SVB Singh said that 90% of state-run schools have a dedicated schedule for yoga.
