Arterial blockage
LUCKNOW: If traffic snarls in the state capital became more bearable on Tuesday, the credit should go to the common man. Working on the warnings given by media reports, most denizens avoided the main arteries of the city and used the outer roads to reach their destinations. As for the police, they did wake up but it had a limited impact. This scenario is likely to continue for a few more days.
Tuesday saw more traffic cops on the roads and a slightly better management.

However, people had given up all hopes after the maddening experience on Monday and taken the outer roads— namely, the Sitapur Road and the Lohia Path to reach their offices. However, the on-going construction work on Lohia Path has converted this road into a one-way. The rush of traffic led to an accident in which a car overturned after hitting a truck. Nobody was injured though.
Traffic diversion from Hanuman Setu and Nishatganj Flyover only helped in moving the almost stationary traffic at a snail's pace. This continued to be the scenario the entire day. As if to take advantage of the traffic jam, some students of the Lucknow University decided to block the road to protest against the Supreme Court orders on the norms to be followed during union elections. Meanwhile, the building material dump on the Badshahnagar flyover continues to cause inconvenience to the commuters.
Traffic diverted from IT Crossing to Daliganj actually made matters worse for the commuters. The Kartik Mela going on near Bansmandi acted as a bottleneck for the traffic. The unmanageable traffic on the Daliganj Road even on normal days had swelled to make life difficult for travellers.
Traffic on the VVIP Guest House Road was also affected as a truck—full of potatoes— overturned at the Crossing. Normal traffic on this route has remained disrupted for the last few days due to a breach on a small bridge located on this road.
