LUCKNOW: Gearing up for 2019 election campaign, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will embark on a cycle yatra from Kannauj - the constituency from where he plans to contest

Lok Sabha

polls - early next month to highlight Modi government's failures.

The yatra will be flagged off by the family of Khajanchi, the boy born outside a bank where his mother was standing in queue to exchange banned currency notes following demonetisation. Covering a distance of 50 km, the yatra will end at the stretch of Lucknow-Agra Expressway which witnessed the touch-down of Indian Air Force combat jets in an air show held to mark the inaugural function of the expressway in November 2016. Khajanchi's family will also be present at the yatra's culmination point. Akhilesh had recently announced that he will take out one cycle rally ever month in different parts of the state before 2019 polls.

SP general secretary and spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said that the cycle yatra would be scheduled early next month and the date would be finalised soon. The flag off and culmination points have been chosen purposefully.

"Our president has announced that he would like to contest Lok Sabha polls from Kannauj, so what better place can there be than launching the cycle yatra from the constituency," said a senior leader adding that erstwhile SP government's flagship project Lucknow-Agra Expressway was apt for its culmination.

Party leaders slammed BJP which reached out to celebrities and prominent people from different walks of life to mark Modi governments four years in power. "They only like to entertain industrialists, they are not concerned about common people and their difficulties," Chaudhary said.
