AI-powered drones to monitor traffic during IPL matches
TACKLING TRAFFIC THROUGH TECH
Lucknow: In a first, Lucknow police are set to deploy AI-enabled drones for real-time traffic monitoring and management during IPL matches.Police officials said the AI-powered drones will not only provide live aerial surveillance of traffic hotspots during IPL matches but will also use predictive analytics to anticipate congestion patterns, allowing authorities to take pre-emptive action. The system is expected to analyse traffic density, vehicle flow, bottlenecks, and peak-hour trends, enabling better deployment of personnel and timely diversions. The drones will be equipped with high-resolution cameras and AI software capable of detecting violations such as wrong-side driving, illegal parking, and signal jumping. Real-time feeds from the drones will be integrated with the city’s traffic control room, ensuring quicker response to incidents, accidents, or sudden traffic build-ups during IPL matches.DCP (Traffic) Raveena Tyagi said the move is aimed at making traffic management more proactive rather than reactive.“For the first time, we are integrating AI-enabled drones with predictive analytics to monitor and manage traffic during the IPL. This will help us identify congestion before it builds up and take preventive measures such as rerouting traffic or deploying additional personnel,” she said.“With real-time inputs and predictive insights, we will be able to reduce travel time, improve enforcement, and enhance commuter safety,” she added.
