LUCKNOW: Depressed over prolonged illness, a married woman committed suicide on Wednesday evening.
Monika Singh (32) tried to strangulate her two-year-old daughter before ending her own life, suspect police after going through the suicide note she left behind.
Singh got married to Dharmendra Singh almost four years ago and the couple stayed in a rented house at Vrindavan colony under the jurisdiction of PGI police station.
On Wednesday, Singh had stepped out around 4pm to buy some household items.
When he came back around 6.45pm, he found his wife's body suspended from the ceiling fan. Monica had tied a string used to support curtains around her neck. Injury marks were seen on the daughter's neck as well suggesting that the deceased had tried to kill her. In charge of PGI police station inspector Ajit Singh Chauhan said that Monica had been suffering from severe spondylitis for the past three years and remained depressed as despite treatment and regular therapies, she could not get better. "She decided to end her life on Wednesday," said Chauhan.
"In the suicide note found in the house, Monica stated that she was taking her daughter Shreya along as nobody would remain to take care of her," added Chauhan. Dharmendra worked as a primary school teacher in Haidergarh, Barabanki while the deceased was a homemaker. The deceased's father went through the note and confirmed it had been written by Monika.
Police said Monika's father Indra Sen Singh remained extremely depressed as two of his children had died earlier.
