LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old woman suffered acid burns and her husband thrashed allegedly when they were attacked by a group of men in Ramkot area of Sitapur district late on Wednesday evening.

The woman is undergoing treatment at the district hospital while an FIR was lodged at the local police station in connection with the incident. Investigators suspect that the incident to be the fallout of old enmity.

"On January 22, Anita, a resident of Kanshiram Colony in Ramkot police station area complained about an acid attack on her by four youths identified as Nitin, Kapil, Rahul and Sagar. A police team rushed to the spot and took the woman to district hospital," said SP Sitapur, L R Kumar.

"The woman said four youths of the colony entered her house and thrashed her husband Rajendra. When she tried to intervene they threw acid on her and fled," Kumar told TOI.

"Doctors say she was attacked by some acidic substance but could not pinpoint it. Nitin, Kapil, Rahul and Sagar have been booked for acid attack, voluntarily cause hurt, attempt to murder," the SP added.
