LUCKNOW: More than 40 trains, including Shatabdi Express,

Marudhar Express

and Mahamana Express arrived late on Saturday because of the dense fog that has engulfed the state for the past two days.

Among trains arriving late were Mathura-Chapra Express (9 hours),

Anand Vihar-Mau Express

(9 hours), Sapt Kranti Express (7 hours), Marudhar Express (7 hours), Amritsar-Katihar Express (6 hours) and New Delhi-Lucknow Swarn Shatabdi Express.

Northern Railway and

North Eastern Railway

have been provided with anti-fog handheld devices for loco pilots, detonators (special crackers to give an alert to loco pilots), modern signalling and whistle boards to tackle the fog situation. Senior divisional commercial manager, NR, Lucknow division Shivendra Shukla said, "The situation of fog is bad with 80% routes hit. Railways is trying its best to keep passengers safe."
