UP police said that a drive was carried out under ‘Operation Narco’. Initiating the action independently, UP police raided over 5,000 locations across the state.

Additional director general of police, law and order, Prashant Kumar, said that on daily basis monitoring of cases involving drugs is done and crackdowns are conducted in the districts. “From Sunday evening, we began a drive in the districts against those supplying psychotropic substances including ganja (cannabis), Alprazolam, heroin, and opium along with hookah pipes and different flavours of it,” he said.

Following which 702 FIRs were registered in which 785 youths have also arrested from Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Basti, Santkabirnagar, Siddharthanagar, Etawah, Hardoi, Unnao, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Prayagraj and four commissionerates of Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi and Gautambuddhnagar.

ADG Kumar also said that in the recent time, owing to a coordinated approach amongst the drug law enforcement agency in the state, a huge dent has been inflicted on the drug network by affecting huge seizures, sizable arrests of drug traffickers, including absconders.

“Seizing of crores of illegally acquired properties out of drug proceeds, inflicting gangster acts on some of them have forced the drug traffickers to stop their illegal activities in UP,” he said.
