6 of family from Bihar killed in road accident in UP's Jaunpur

LUCKNOW: Six members of a family including a child were killed, and three others were injured after their car collided with a speeding truck in Jaunpur on Sunday.

Police said that the accident took place on the Karjag-Kerakat road in the Gaura Badshahpur police station area.

The deceased were identified as Gajdhar Sharma (60) and his son Anish Sharma (35), Jawahar Sharma (57), and his 17-year-old son, Sonam (34) and Rinku (32).

Three other members of the family who were injured are undergoing treatment at the BHU hospital, said the police.

Station house officer, Brijesh Gupta, said that in a devastating turn of events, Gajadhar Sharma, a resident of Sitamarhi, Bihar, embarked on a journey to Jhusi in Prayagraj along with nine family members, aiming to find a suitable match for his son Chandan Sharma's marriage.

Little did they know that their plans would be shattered by a horrific accident, he said.

At 2.30am, tragedy struck at the Kerakat Prasad intersection. The Sharma family's seven-seater car got struck by a speeding truck coming from Jaunpur.

The impact of the collision was so immense that the car was dragged for approximately 10 meters, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake, said SHO Gupta.

Upon receiving the information, police swiftly responded to the scene. The injured were promptly rushed to the district hospital in an ambulance, where medical professionals were on standby to provide aid. However, the severity of the crash proved fatal, as six members of the Sharma family were pronounced dead on arrival.
