6-hr petrol pump strike strands commuters

All petrol pumps in Lucknow and rest of the state observed a six-hour strike from 6 am to 12noon on Tuesday to press their demand for cutting the heavy entry tax and VAT imposed. As a result, commuters especially office-goers suffered most as people lined up outside the filling stations and many came dragging their vehicles.

LUCKNOW: All petrol pumps in Lucknow and rest of the state observed a six-hour strike from 6 am to 12noon on Tuesday to press their demand for cutting the heavy entry tax and VAT imposed. As a result, commuters especially office-goers suffered most as people lined up outside the filling stations and many came dragging their vehicles.
A nationalised bank employee Ajay Tripathi said, “I forgot to refuel last night and now I came to know about the strike.

I just hope I reach office on time.”
As soon as petrol pumps reopened, it took more than an hour for the rush to ease as people waited for hours to refill.
Lucknow Petrol Dealers’ Association general secretary Sudhir Bora said, “The strike was very successful, though we did not receive any assurance from the government pertaining to our demands. We now plan to hold a meeting at Bulandshehr on August 2 to decide on our next move.”
