Following the collision, an SUV coming from behind, which was also transporting school children from another school, overturned as well.

The accident occurred around 7:30 AM on Friday near the Ahimamau crossing on Shaheed Path in Lucknow, according to police.

"The van, which was transporting children to a private school in Gomti Nagar Extension, had 12 children on board. Of the 12, six were injured, with one in critical condition," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, South, Tej Swaroop. "Four of the injured have been admitted to Lohia Hospital, and two are being treated at Medanta Hospital."

"A nine-year-old girl is in critical condition and is currently in the ICU, while the other six injured children were discharged after receiving treatment," added DCP South, Tej Pratap Singh.

The SUV that was trailing the van and also overturned was carrying students from another private school in Gomti Nagar; however, those students were unharmed, according to the police.

"The incident occurred around 7 AM. It wasn't a school van; the parents had opted for van pooling and hired it together for their children," said CMS spokesperson Rishi Khanna.

He also mentioned that as soon as the incident was reported, the principal of the branch immediately reached Medanta and Lohia Hospitals to check on the children's well-being and assured the parents of the school's support.
