LUCKNOW: At least 5,000 migrant workers and their family members from Maharashtra and Gujarat arrived in four Shramik special trains to Lucknow on Wednesday and were sent to their native districts on UPSRTC buses after thermal scanning.
Of four trains, three ferried 3,800 workers from Anand and Viramgam in Gujarat, while another from Jalandhar brought home 1,200 labourers. There was chaos when the second train arrived as health workers deployed for screening were not present. Police and
Railway Protection Force personnel managed the crowd till medical teams arrived.
Ayush Kushwaha, a Bahraich resident and employed as painter in Ahmedabad, said he paid Rs 620 for the ticket. Ram Kumari Devki, who worked as a helper at a private milk factory in Anand, said her husband stayed, but she came with her elder brother because she was worried about her four-year old son living with her mother-inlaw in a Pratapgarh village.
