Lucknow: Five swimmers from
Uttar Pradesh have been selected to participate in the fourth edition of Khelo India Youth Games 2022 to be held in Panchkula, Haryana from June 4 to 13.
Giving this information to TOI here on Monday, Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Swimming Association, Raveen Kapoor said that Disha Bhandari,
Tanisha Singh, Abhishek Kannujia, Pintu Yadav and
Rohit Sharma will represent UP in the games. Disha, who hails from Noida and has joined the National Swimming Academy, New Delhi, has won silver medal in 200metre individual medley in junior national meet in Bangalore, bronze medal in 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley in senior national meet, Bangalore. In the upcoming games, Disha will take part in 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley, Kapoor said.
Tanisha Singh, a resident of Noida, has participated in Khelo India games in 2019 and 2020. While in 2019 she bagged the seventh rank, next year she secured the eighth spot. This year she will participate in the 100m breaststroke and 400m individual medley, the secretary of UP Swimming Association said.
He added that Rohit Sharma, who took part in the junior nationals in Bengaluru last year, would participate in 50 and 100 metre breaststroke and 50m freestyle in the youth games this year. Rohit is a resident of Moradabad.
Pintu Yadav, a resident of Gorakhpur, will take part in the 50m butterfly in the youth games, Kapoor said and added that he had already participated in junior national 2021 in Bengaluru. Pintu is undergoing training in Army Boys Academy, Bengaluru.
Abhishek Kannujia, who too hails from Gorakhpur, had won gold in 50m breaststroke, two silver medals in 100m and 200 metre breaststroke and bronze in 4×100 medley relay in the junior nationals in Bengaluru last year. Abhishek will participate in the 50m breaststroke at the Khelo India Youth Games. Abhishek too has joined Army Boys Academy, Bengaluru.
