LUCKNOW: In a joint operation, Bakshi-Ka-Talab and Maal police arrested five persons and claimed to have worked out at least 17 cases of theft which took place in various police station areas of the state capital in the past a few months.
The arrested accused were identified as Mishrilal, Munna, Churai and Rajkumar, all residents of Sitapur, and Kamal Kishore alias Gatte, a resident of Gudamba police station area.
The police recovered valuables, including jewellery worth over Rs 3 lakh and two country-made weapons, from the possession of the miscreants, said SP (Rural) Ashok Prasad. The police team also recovered six stolen cellphones from their possession.
The miscreants, SP (Rural) said, confessed to have been involved in at least four cases of theft in Maal, three in Bakshi-Ka-Talab, four in Madiaon, three in Kakori, two in Gudamba and one in Vikasnagar police station area. Besides, the miscreants also confessed to their involvement in theft cases which took place in Sitapur and Bahraich districts.
The miscreants, according to the police, used a four-wheeler to transport stolen goods and at times also used to beat up the victims, if they happened to face any resistance while they committed the crime.
Since a surveillance team from SP (Rural) office was also keeping a watch on the movement of miscreants, the police got the first clue when the location of a stolen cellphone was traced. In the meantime, the police also received a tip-off that the miscreants were coming from Sidhauli in Sitapur to Lucknow to sell the stolen valuables. The miscreants were travelling on a four-wheeler, the informer told the police. A police team from Maal and Bakshi-Ka-Talab intercepted them on Indaurabad turn. On further checking, the police recovered a country-made pistol and stolen valuables, including jewellery. The four arrested miscreants then also revealed that their another aide, Kamal Kishore, was waiting for them on Nandana turn under Bakshi-Ka-Talab police station area. The police later arrested Kamal Kishore and recovered a country-made pistol.
