SHAHJAHANPUR : Hours after the expulsion of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav from Samajwadi Party, there was a wave of resignations from party workers in the region. District president Tanveer Khan resigned from the party along with 41 other members in the district unit. Tanveer Khan's name featured in both the lists of SP candidates for the upcoming assembly elections announced by

Khan is a popular Muslim leader in the district and was elected as the chairman of the municipality for three consecutive times in Shahjahanpur. He is believed to be a close friend of Akhilesh Yadav.
