The religious congregation is expected to witness a turnout of over 10 lakh pilgrims daily.

With preparations in full swing, urban development minister AK Sharma on Monday reviewed the progress of 260 different development projects that are being executed with a budget of Rs 3,738 crore to make the event successful.

The Kumbh City is being readied to house 40 lakh kalpawasis (pilgrims who stay on the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna rivers during the mela period), besides lakhs of daily visitors, dignitaries and other important guests. Arrangements are also being made to provide bathing facilities for 40 lakh pilgrims during the auspicious days and shahi snans. Seven more ghats are being spruced up to handle the rush.

Officials have been given instructions to provide quick mobility and transportation options to ferry the visitors in and out of the mela city. About 1,000 buses are going to be deployed and 12 makeshift bus stands will be established to take the pilgrims around.

Apart from pontoon bridges to facilitate the movement of the large gathering over the river channels, a ropeway is also expected to be available for providing quick mobility to people from the Sangam area to Naini and other parts of the city. Tenders have been floated to set up the ropeway, said officials.
